Conflicts should not be resolved with knives, according to police experts
Oberhausen Police Launch Campaign to Educate Youth on Dangers of Carrying Knives
In a bid to curb the rising trend of knife-related incidents, Chief Inspector Michael Finke of the Oberhausen police delivered a lecture on August 28th in Schmachtendorf. The event, which aimed to inform young people about the risks associated with carrying knives in public spaces, was attended by 109 participants.
Among the attendees were Thomas Winkler, head of the district service of the Oberhausen police, and Andreas Kaspersetz, the responsible district officer. Both played a key role in organizing the event, which was part of a statewide police campaign.
The main messages of the campaign are clear and straightforward: knives have no place in public spaces, and knives don't solve conflicts. Finke reported that simply carrying a knife in public can already be a criminal offense.
The campaign reaches out to young people through accommodations where young migrants live and direct contact in schools. Finke, who has been playing a key role in the campaign, delivers lectures and speaks to young people about the risks of carrying knives.

In case of danger, dial 110. The surprise is great when Finke reports this to the young people he speaks with. It is hoped that through education and awareness, the number of knife-related incidents can be significantly reduced.
