Completion of Collaborative Editing for the 'Creepy Bits' Project Using DaVinci Resolve Studio
In the world of short-form horror storytelling, the much-anticipated second season of "Creepy Bits" has made a splash. Shot in May 2024 with a larger budget compared to the first season, this web series continues to captivate audiences with its chilling tales.
The production was a collaborative effort, with the post-production team working tirelessly to bring the series to life. The footage, captured using two Alexa LF cameras in ProRes 4444XQ and 4.5K open gate, was stored on two identical 32-Terabyte RAIDs.
The post-production was managed using DaVinci Resolve Studio, a powerful tool chosen for its new cloud features. This enabled the post team of approximately 15 people to work off a single cloud library, saving time and money on couriering hard drives. Cloud collaboration also provided real-time visibility into the post-production progress, eliminating any confusion about which version to look at.
Mollie Milchberg, the DMT for "Creepy Bits" season two, played a crucial role in the post-production process. She ensured camera cards were copied correctly, created new Blackmagic Cloud projects, ingested and audio-synced the footage, relabeled all the footage, and created an assembly edit timeline from the script supervisor's logs.
Gregory, along with the filmmakers, handled the first pass of color correction at his studio, with the final online being done together at their studio. The editors' proxies were relinked to the cloud projects, allowing them to work from HD proxies at home, logging into their Blackmagic Cloud account to edit their episode.
The combination of DaVinci Resolve's world-class color grading, NLE, media transcoding, and cloud-based workflow proved to be an excellent choice for the project. The post-production was completed in under four months, a remarkable feat considering the VFX-heavy post on 105 minutes of new content.
The first season of "Creepy Bits" had a successful festival run, playing at 17 international festivals and winning five awards. With the second season now available online, fans are eagerly waiting to see if this new instalment will continue the series' winning streak.
