Rallye Baja Spain Aragon: A Star-Studded Field Gears Up
The Rallye Baja Spain Aragon is set to host some of the biggest names in off-road racing this weekend. The 93-car entry list features a diverse range of vehicles and drivers, with several championship battles set to heat up.
In the Ultimate category, Miroslav Zapletal leads the Drivers' Championship by 15 points and also tops the Master class. Juan Cruz Yacopini, Zapletal's closest challenger, has won two rounds this season and will be aiming to close the gap. Other notable competitors in this category include Gaël Queralt, Marco Pereira, and Mónica Plaza, who will all be driving Can-Am Maverick XRS Turbo RRs.
The battle for honours in the SSV class is heating up, with Paul Severn leading by 23 points. However, he will not be competing in Spain, which opens the door for Mitchel Van Den Brink to challenge for the top spot. Van Den Brink, Severn's closest challenger, had a strong performance in Italy and will be partnered by Bart van Heun in the Can-Am Maverick R, registered for the World Baja Cup.
The Challenger category is led by Emirati Khalid Al-Jafla, who also holds third place in the overall Drivers' Championship. Al-Jafla will be aiming to maintain his lead, while the Stock category leader, Majed Al-Thunayyan, will not see his advantage trimmed as he is not competing in Spain.
The Can-Am Maverick Rally-Raid category sees a strong European presence, with Jordi Pons, Miguel Amblas, Benjamin Lattard, and Jedidia Favre all set to compete. In the European Baja Cup, Diego Martinez and Bernardo Graue, as well as Eugenio Amos and Paolo Ceci, will be representing Italy.
The Polaris RXR Pro R Sport category will feature several Portuguese teams, including Luís Cidade and Valter Cardoso, Afonso Oliveira and Fabio Belo, Herlander Araújo and Tiago Magalhães, Gonçalo Guerreiro and Joel Lutas, Alexandro Pinto and Bernardo Oliveira, and Wilson Galo and Carlos Paulino.
The Can-Am Maverick XRS Turbo RR category will see several Spanish teams in action, including Pedro Gonçalves and Hugo Magalhães, José Cami and Cristian Cami, Filipe Lopes and Gonçalo Reis, and Rafa Muñoz and Sergio Fernández.
The Taurus T3 Max category will feature a strong international contingent, with Pim Klaassen and Wade Harris from the Netherlands, Charles Munster and Loris Pascaud from Luxembourg, and Pedro Gonçalves and Rui Paulo also representing Portugal.
The Can-Am Maverick X3 category will see Vincent Albira and Maxime Albira, as well as Luis Climent and Carles Jimenez, competing. In the Apache APH-03, Yannick Panagiotis and Valérie Panagiotis will be aiming for a strong performance.
