Comparing political parties within the local elections is facilitated by the electoral system

In the upcoming municipal election in Bergisch Gladbach, several parties will be vying for seats on the city council. These include the CDU, SPD, Greens, FDP, AfD, The Left, and various local voter associations.

To help voters make informed decisions, the "Your Voice, Your Topics" project, a collaboration between the citizen platform and the network CORRECTIV.Lokal, has developed an "analog Wahl-o-mat" or election compass. This concept, inspired by the "Citizens' Election Program" in the USA, allows voters to compare the parties' positions on key issues.

The election compass is in the DIN-A4 format and can be downloaded and printed. Users can zoom in on their screens for better viewing. The compass includes nine questions, derived from the GL Election Agenda, which was based on over 1000 questions submitted by 711 people.

The questions reflect the core concerns of the participants and have been compiled in a table for quick reference. The longer versions of the parties' answers can be found on the focus page for the municipal election.

The survey for the CitizensAgenda was promoted through local media, flyers, migrant associations, schools, and youth centres. Although the results are not representative, they offer a glimpse into the views of the local readers.

Rums and VierNull are partners for the municipal election in NRW, and copies of the election compass can be picked up at the editorial office, Hauptstraße 257 (opposite the Gnadenkirche). Class sets can be requested from the editorial team at the website.

The "analog Wahl-o-mat" principle has been implemented at the federal election 2021, the state election 2022, and the federal election 2025, demonstrating its growing popularity and utility in helping voters make informed decisions.
