Community-led Initiative for Unity and Harmony
Wuppertal, Germany - The municipal integration center recently hosted an event to present the new integration monitoring plan for 2025 and seek ways to apply its findings to integration work in the city. The event, attended by actors from a network related to the integration center, was an internal presentation of the plan, aiming to draw conclusions for integration work in Wuppertal.
The event provided a platform for encounter and exchange, emphasizing integration as a joint project for all. Annette Berg, Deputy Mayor for Social Affairs, Youth, Schools, and Integration, explained that 44.5% of the city's population have a migration background, and two out of three children in the city grow up with a migration history.
During the event, participants worked in four separate groups, contributing their knowledge to discuss various aspects of integration work. Successful integration work was recognised as an important task for all areas of action, with administration, politics, and civil society being crucial for its success.
The new integration monitoring plan shows where Wuppertal is already well-positioned in integration work. However, it also indicates areas where further steering should be done. Challenges such as unevenly distributed educational opportunities and gaps in the offer network were identified during the event.
Perspectives on how networking and information exchange can be improved in the future were also discussed. The monitoring plan provides an important orientation for the collaboration of these entities in integration work, with the goal of creating a more inclusive and harmonious society in Wuppertal.
The event marked a significant step in Wuppertal's commitment to integration, underscoring the importance of continuous collaboration and dialogue among all stakeholders. The new integration monitoring plan is set to guide the city's integration efforts over the next few years, ensuring that Wuppertal remains a welcoming and inclusive city for all its residents.
