Community dance event slated for Saturday aims to aid foster children in Alexandria through fundraising

It's Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, and Alexandria is buzzing with a variety of events. Today's schedule includes everything from a SWaM Certification Workshop to a Thursday Afternoon Book Discussion.

One event that stands out is a free community dance party happening on Saturday at Pork Barrel BBQ, located at 2312 Mount Vernon Ave. The dance party, from 6 to 10 p.m., aims to raise money for Alexandria children in foster care and those at risk of abuse and neglect. The Fund for Alexandria's Child, an organisation promoting community involvement and developing resources for the city's foster care system, will benefit from the event. Ten percent of all sales during the party will be donated to this noble cause.

The party will feature live music from DJ Bob, and the evening will be headlined by DJ Jazzy Beats. The festivities will also include Tito's Handmade Vodka cocktail specials and a lively atmosphere that promises to make for an enjoyable evening. Keep in mind, however, that the weather forecast includes a chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10 p.m., so be prepared!

Another exciting event happening this weekend is the "Tons of Trucks" event, scheduled to return on Saturday, Sept. 20, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This family-friendly event will take place at Chinquapin Park, located at 3210 King St. The "Tons of Trucks" event offers children an opportunity to explore and learn about various vehicles, from fire trucks to construction equipment.

In other news, the City of Alexandria has released a draft of its latest Green Building Policy. This policy aims to promote sustainable construction practices and reduce the city's carbon footprint. The public is encouraged to provide feedback through a survey to understand the impact of flooding throughout the city.

Virginia school districts are seeking to halt the Education Department's 'high risk' designation in a court hearing. Meanwhile, Alexandria's fall scene is gearing up, with new restaurants, art festivals, and historic experiences starting in September.

Lastly, emergency water main repairs in Alexandria could disrupt service overnight. Be sure to stay updated on any potential service disruptions.

Stay tuned for more updates on these and other events happening in Alexandria.
