In the picturesque Schooltwiete of Elmshorn, two red oaks have fallen victim to a mysterious environmental crime. According to recent reports, the trees have shown clear signs of disease, with over 80-90% of their foliage and young shoots severely discolored or withered.

The city of Elmshorn took swift action and filed a criminal complaint for an environmental crime in early July. The crime is believed to involve the damage of these red oaks using glyphosate, a potent herbicide.

Laboratory tests have confirmed this suspicion, and an expert opinion commissioned by the city provided evidence of poisoning. The expert's estimate suggests that large amounts of herbicides were introduced into the soil near the trees, presumably in the first months of 2025.

The estimated damage to the red oaks is approximately €20,000. The expert recommends monitoring and, if possible, preserving the affected red oaks in the Schooltwiete. He also suggests that there may be an increase in deadwood formation in the near future for the affected trees.

The investigations for this environmental crime are being conducted at the Elmshorn Police-Autobahn and District Headquarters. The Police Directorate Bad Segeberg is overseeing the investigations and has made recommendations.

Unfortunately, there is no publicly available information about who committed this environmental offense involving glyphosate on the red oaks in the Schooltwiete area of Elmshorn in spring 2025.
