Comments period concludes for planning regulations discussion
The Development & Planning Authority (DPA) in Guernsey is seeking feedback on proposed changes to the Island Development Plan (IDP), with an independent planning expert, Professor Michael Parkinson, conducting public hearings to gather opinions.
The public has until October 13 to submit their feedback, after which Professor Parkinson will host public hearings and make recommendations to the DPA. The DPA has already taken into account public submissions and revised its position, including on the number, location, and scale of new affordable housing sites.
Feedback can be submitted on the specific webpage provided, where the proposed changes to the IDP, along with comments from the DPA, can be found. Paper forms are also available on the webpage and at Edward T Wheadon House, Le Truchot.
Deputy Yvonne Burford, President of the DPA, encourages all comments on the proposed changes to the IDP, stating, "I appreciate the time and effort invested by islanders in sharing their views, and I encourage participation in the final consultation."
The focus of the review is to ensure enough land is allocated for private housing, affordable housing, and businesses. Keigh Holland, the independent planning inspector, emphasizes the importance of considering what has come forward in previous consultations.
After October 13, Professor Parkinson will make his recommendations to the DPA, who will decide whether to accept or reject them. Final reforms to planning laws will then be drawn up and presented to the States Assembly for their final decision.
It's important to note that feedback can only be based on the revised plans and comments made by the DPA, not new observations. Mr. Holland also appreciates the input from islanders, stating, "It's crucial that we consider the views of the community as we move forward with these important changes to the IDP."
The public is encouraged to participate in this consultation to help shape the future of Guernsey's development.
