Commencing Instruction at the Tiegelschule in the North Quarter scheduled for September 2026

The Tiegelschule, a new municipal primary school, is set to open its doors in September 2026 at Tiegelstraße 29, 45141 Essen. With a total cost of approximately 34.5 million euros for its rebuilding, the school will operate with at least 50 students enrolled and a capacity that will reach its full three-year capacity by the 2029/2030 academic year.

The Tiegelschule will be an inclusive open all-day primary school, featuring a "Green Classroom," a school garden, a learning kitchen, music and workshop rooms, a counseling office with therapy and care rooms, and a separate sports hall. The school will also create positions for a janitor and a school secretary.

The shell of the Tiegelschule was completed in August 2024, and the building and rooms will allow for group learning. The school's operations are scheduled to begin on 3 September 2026, marking the start of the 2026/2027 academic year, as previously mentioned.

The Tiegelschule will collaborate closely with the University of Duisburg-Essen in its daily operations. This collaboration includes student internships, scientific research, and regular dialogue. The school conference, scheduled to take place after the Tiegelschule opens, will determine and verify a final name for the school.

The concept for the Tiegelschule was developed in collaboration with scientists, and a budget of 768,700 euros is allocated for school equipment. After opening, the school will continue to engage with the University of Duisburg-Essen in its efforts to provide a comprehensive and innovative educational experience.

The Tiegelschule's capacity will be gradually increased over the years, with the aim of serving a diverse student body. The school's commitment to inclusivity and innovation makes it an exciting addition to the educational landscape in Essen.

While the head of the Tiegelschule at the start of school activities in September 2026 has not been announced yet, the school is eagerly awaited by the community. After the school conference, the Tiegelschule will be officially named and ready to embark on its mission to provide quality education to its students.
