The construction of a new bridge on federal road B101 in Großenhain, Meissen district, has officially commenced. This development is expected to significantly improve traffic flow and bolster the regional economy.

State Secretary Barbara Meyer hailed the swift start of construction as a result of exemplary cooperation between multiple entities, including the federal government, the district, the municipality, the railway, the planning office, the demolition company, and the road construction administration.

The old bridge, which was a prestressed concrete bridge with Hennigsdorf steel like the Dresden Carolabridge, could no longer be opened to traffic due to its deteriorated condition. A special inspection revealed existing cracks and samples taken from the old bridge indicated a risk to its stability, according to the State Office for Road Construction and Traffic. The old bridge was demolished approximately eight months ago, with the demolition process completed in December of last year.

The new bridge, approximately 53 meters long and 14 meters wide, will have a cycle path, unlike its predecessor. Construction is planned to be completed in October 2026.

State Secretary Meyer expressed that with the construction of the new bridge, Großenhain is demonstrating what is possible. The mayor of Großenhain also thanked all those involved in the construction, highlighting the swift construction process as a testament to the effective cooperation between multiple entities in Großenhain.

However, temporary closures of the railway line between Dresden and Berlin will be necessary during the construction of the new bridge.

The name of the project manager or person responsible for the construction execution of the new bridge is not publicly available at this time.

This new bridge construction is in the interest of car drivers, public transport, and the regional economy, aiming to ensure smooth traffic flow once again soon. With its completion, Großenhain is set to make a significant stride towards modern infrastructure, benefiting both its residents and visitors alike.
