The city of Essen invites you to explore its rich cultural heritage on the Day of Open Monuments, taking place on September 14, 2025. This nationwide event, coordinated by the German Foundation for Monument Protection, aims to awaken interest in monument preservation.

You can find further information about the program for the Essen monuments in the flyer Day_of_Open_Monuments_2025.pdf. The Old Synagogue Essen, a house of Jewish culture and a cultural meeting place, will offer hourly guided tours through the exhibition of the house on the Day of Open Monuments.

Schloss Borckel, another monument to discover in Essen, will be open from 1 pm to 6 pm. Activities for children and young people are planned at Schloss Borckel on the same day. Various guided tours will be available, and there will be a concert "The Voice of the Shtetl" at 5 pm at the Old Synagogue Essen.

The event in Essen will feature nearly 30 monuments for exploration, including Burg Altendorf, the Old Synagogue, Schloss Borbeck ensemble, Villa Hügel, and Grugabad Essen. During current excavations by the city archaeology of Essen, two buildings in front of the residential tower of Burg Altendorf have been uncovered and documented in the main castle area.

The Lower Monument Authority of Essen's city portal will present findings about Burg Altendorf on the Day of Open Monuments. The restoration of Burg Altendorf in Essen is significant for preserving and appreciating the cultural monument, helping maintain its historical value and local heritage. However, no additional findings or discoveries related to the castle were mentioned in the provided search results.
