Columbus expresses sorrow over Rowling's transphobic views
Harry Potter Stars Distance Themselves from J.K. Rowling's Controversies
In a series of recent developments, two key figures from the original Harry Potter films have made it clear they will not be involved in the upcoming HBO series, and have voiced their disagreement with author J.K. Rowling's controversial statements.
Chris Columbus, director of the first two Harry Potter films and producer of the third, has publicly joined the "not-so-secret army" standing up against Rowling's transphobia. In a new interview with Variety, Columbus expressed disappointment with Rowling's statements but did not agree with them. Columbus, who played a significant role in shaping the visual aesthetic of the wizarding world, believes that the new series provides an opportunity to bring more scenes from the early books to life.
Meanwhile, Daniel Radcliffe, who played the iconic role of Harry Potter, has also distanced himself from the new series. Radcliffe, who does not expect to have a cameo in the new series, has stated that he believes it's time for a fresh start. He has made it clear that he will not be involved in the new series and has no plans to return to the wizarding world.
Despite their decision to step away, both Columbus and Radcliffe have expressed their support for the new series and its creators. The new Harry Potter series for HBO will be produced by HBO Entertainment, Warner Bros. Television, Brontรซ Film & TV, and Heyday Films. Francesca Gardiner will serve as the showrunner, writer, and executive producer, while Mark Mylod will direct and also serve as an executive producer. J.K. Rowling and producer David Heyman are also involved as executive producers.
In other news, HBO's new Harry Potter series bears a striking resemblance to the film franchise Columbus launched. The new series is expected to be a faithful adaptation of the beloved books, with a visual style that is reminiscent of the original films.
