On Friday morning, a single-engine biplane departing from Centennial Airport experienced an unexpected incident. The plane, which was piloted by an individual whose identity has not been publicly disclosed, went off a runway at approximately 8:50 a.m.
The aircraft ended up on its nose as a result of the mishap. Witnesses reported the incident to South Metro Fire Rescue, who promptly responded to the scene. The rescue team worked diligently to right the plane and mitigate a small fuel leak from the aircraft.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the sole occupant of the aircraft was unharmed. Centennial Airport's spokeswoman, Samantha Blymyer, confirmed that the plane was returned to its owner after being righted.
The exact cause of the plane ending up on its nose is still under investigation. However, the incident resulted in damage to the aircraft. South Metro Fire Rescue reported the incident, and images of the damaged plane were shared on their official social media platforms.
As of the latest update at 1:44 p.m. Friday, Aug. 22, 2025, the plane, which was previously on its nose, is now upright. The incident serves as a reminder of the inherent risks associated with aviation and the importance of safety protocols in place at airports like Centennial.
