Cologne Police set to organize "Cologne Lights" event, with various assembly points planned
On August 27th, around 8:30 AM, readiness police forces temporarily took into custody four individuals (three men and one woman) on Swisttalstraße, Cologne. The individuals were allegedly on their way to the blockade on Brühler Straße.
On the same day, over 70 participants blocked the access road to a military base on Brühler Straße. The group did not clear the occupied entrance area despite repeated requests. As a result, deployment forces dispersed the assembly due to the lack of compliance.
Deployment forces also seized climbing equipment and pyrotechnics from the masked individuals during the operation. However, no assembly leader was identified during the blockade.
The Cologne police will deploy up to 1,600 police officers on Saturday, August 30th, in preparation for several larger deployment scenarios in the Cologne city area. These deployment scenarios include "anti-militaristic" assembly scenarios due to the protest camp announced by the "Rheinmetall disarm" alliance in the Colonius Park.
The "Rheinmetall disarm" alliance has announced a procession from 2:00 PM to 8:30 PM on Saturday, starting at the Heumarkt and leading to the Konrad-Adenauer-Kaserne in the Rodenkirchen district. Simultaneously, another procession under the theme "Anti-war day 2025" is scheduled, with around 400 participants. This procession will start at an undisclosed location and end on the Chlodwigplatz.
Chief Police Director Martin Lotz will lead the deployment. He emphasizes that peaceful assemblies will be protected, but violence or unfriendly actions will not be tolerated. Those who incite violence, participate in it, or fail to comply with restrictions will face decisive action.
The Cologne police will provide information on current situation developments on their social media channels on Saturday. The affected individuals were released after the completion of police measures. It's worth noting that the name of the police chief responsible for several large operations on Saturday, August 30, is not provided in the available search results.
The "Cologne Lichter" will also take place simultaneously on August 30th, adding another layer of activity to the city. The Cologne police are urging participants in all events to respect the rules and regulations to ensure a peaceful and safe environment for everyone.
