Collision on A31 highway results in 10 individuals sustaining injuries
On Sunday evening, August 15, 2025, the Bottrop Fire Department was called to a significant traffic accident on the A31. The incident involved two cars, one of which overturned and landed on its roof.
Upon receiving the call, the Bottrop Fire Department swiftly mobilised their resources, with around 40 personnel from the professional fire brigade and the voluntary fire brigade Kirchhellen responding to the scene. In addition, rescue forces from Oberhausen, Dorsten, and Gladbeck were requested to support the Bottrop crews.
Contrary to initial reports, no one was trapped in the accident. However, a total of ten people were injured, one of them seriously. The first responders initiated the "mass casualty incident" protocol to ensure the most effective and efficient response to the situation.
During the operation, the voluntary fire brigade Altstadt provided cover for the rest of the city, ensuring that other emergencies could still be attended to. The police then took over the site for accident investigation once the operation ended for the fire department around 20:00.
