Collision incidents on Polish roads leave pedestrians hurt
In a series of unfortunate events, two traffic accidents involving e-bikes occurred over the weekend in the Rhein-Sieg District.
On Saturday, August 15th, two accidents took place. The first incident happened in Sankt Augustin-Hangelar, where a 29-year-old woman on a bicycle and a 50-year-old man on an e-bike collided. The man was not using any lighting at the time of the accident, which occurred on the shared pedestrian and cycle path along Bonn Street towards Bonn, at the height of Linden Street. The woman remained unharmed, but the 50-year-old man fell and sustained minor injuries.
The same day, another traffic accident occurred in Niederkassel, but no further details about the incident were provided.
The investigations for these e-bike accidents were conducted by the traffic police investigation departments. Specifically, the police in the Rhein-Sieg-Kreis took over the investigations following the accidents. The damage to the vehicles involved was in the four-digit range.
On Sunday, August 17th, another accident occurred at around 14:45 on Pastor-Breuer Street towards Langgasse. This time, an e-bike rider, a 50-year-old man, veered into oncoming traffic after glancing at his navigation device. The man is now being investigated for suspected driving under the influence of alcohol. As a result, he was taken to a hospital for treatment, and a blood sample was taken due to suspected alcohol influence. Remarkably, the man's e-bike was damaged in the accident, while the woman's bicycle remained undamaged.
The man declined medical treatment, but the e-bike rider sustained minor injuries. No information was provided about the outcome of the investigation or any potential charges against the 50-year-old man.
