College athletes at 150 schools can now anonymously report suspected gambling cases
Starting now, college athletes at approximately 150 colleges and universities can anonymously report suspected involvement in gambling.
The NCAA prohibits its student-athletes from placing bets on college sports events sanctioned by the governing body. The new tool, developed by US Integrity and integrated into the RealResponse platform, a digital platform that facilitates communication between student-athletes and athletic administrators, will allow players to anonymously report suspicious betting cases.
If an athlete suspects a player or team employee has leaked "confidential information," such as a player's injury status, to an outside party involved in sports betting, the student can now report the violation to U.S. Integrity. U.S. Integrity is a Sports Betting Regulator dedicated to eliminating fraud and corruption in American sports.
RealResponse was founded in 2015 by former D1 basketball player David Chadwick, who felt players were distant from school administrators and athletic department leaders while attending schools in Rice and Valparaiso. The platform allows players to anonymously participate in surveys and discuss confidential matters confidentially with school and team officials over the Internet.
Proactive approach
The 150 colleges and universities using RealResponse are now giving players the opportunity to self-report cases of suspicious betting. U.S. integrity officials say the proactive approach promises detection before information can be used by outside influences and compromise the integrity of the game.

The reporting tools on the RealResponse platform follow the launch of the company’s Athlete Alert text hotline in May 2023. Athlete Alert is also supported by US Integrity - 1-843-874-8477 - which allows players to submit anonymous reports of suspicion to US Integrity "players, coaches, trainers and anyone else who witnesses or has knowledge of any inappropriate conduct."
According to US Integrity, the anonymity of text lines and the RealResponse platform’s new reporting capabilities allow players to “report issues without fear of retaliation.”
A study commissioned by the NCAA earlier this year found that nearly 7 in 10 college students had bet on sports in the past year.
Growing Concern
The NCAA football season officially begins this weekend. With sports betting widespread and operating in over 30 states, Gambling integrity is on high alert. RealResponse believes that integrating anonymous self-reporting tools into the platform will enhance security and better enable experts to penetrate gambling programs.
“When a report is received through RealResponse, campus administrators can assign US Integrity’s University Response Team (composed of highly trained gaming monitoring professionals) to assess, review and forward the report to the appropriate authorities within minutes,” it explained in a statement. The new reporting service is free for existing RealResponse Higher Education customers. An add-on service extends the program so that anyone from parents to friends of players can report gambling-related problems.
