Collaborative Initiative in Automotive Sector - Joint Venture
In a significant move towards enhancing global competitiveness, the European automotive industry is set to embark on a groundbreaking public-private research and innovation partnership. This partnership, although not yet officially named, falls under the European Commission's framework of European Partnerships or Joint Undertakings (JU).
The industry, comprising automotive manufacturers and suppliers, has identified 2025 as a pivotal year for bold actions. This partnership aims to pool and coordinate resources from both industry and public funding in Europe, with a focus on automotive research and innovation.
Simultaneously, the European Commission is establishing a European Connected and Autonomous Vehicle Alliance. This Alliance will operate from 2025-2027 and will focus on harmonizing and developing further recommendations for implementation. The objectives include accelerating innovation from research to scale-up, prioritizing impact, and facilitating large-scale innovation initiatives.
The new partnership will build on existing Partnerships in the road transport sector. In addition, a dedicated Automotive Joint Undertaking (JU) is also being built to further bolster these efforts.
The initiatives are part of the Competitiveness Compass strategy and aim to enhance the competitiveness, technological sovereignty, and sustainability of the European automotive sector. The Alliance will lead policy, funding, and financing measures for connected and autonomous vehicles.
These initiatives mark a significant step forward in the European automotive sector's quest for innovation and sustainability. As we move towards 2025, the industry stands poised to make bold strides, ensuring its continued competitiveness on the global stage.
