Collaboration in Sudbury prioritizes female empowerment

In a groundbreaking move, the Sudbury Women's Centre (SWC) and Spark Employment Services have formed a partnership aimed at providing enhanced support for women and gender diverse individuals in the community.

The new alliance, spearheaded by the Sudbury Women's Centre's new interim executive director, Chantal Makela, aims to bring together resources and facilitate seamless referrals between the two organizations. As the CEO of Spark Employment Services, Chantal Makela is hopeful that her leadership can help grow both organisations.

The partnership is expected to lead to increased long-term sustainability for both organisations, as well as opportunities for collaborative work on programming and future grant applications. Chantal Makela's vision is to create a hub model for SWC, making it a one-stop shop for clients in need of support.

Chantal Makela recently met with Giah Sumalde, vice-chair of the SWC board, to discuss the partnership. Both organisations have a similar clientele and this partnership is a new, innovative way for both to deliver their services.

Despite the partnership, both organisations remain fully committed to their respective clients and will remain separate agencies. Chantal Makela will continue to serve as CEO of Spark Employment Services while serving as interim executive director of SWC.

This partnership is a significant step forward in providing access to basic needs, resources, services, and education for women and gender diverse individuals in Sudbury. The community can look forward to the benefits that this collaboration will bring.
