UK Partners with LifeSciKY to Boost Kentucky's Life Sciences Sector
The University of Kentucky (UK) has joined forces with LifeSciKY, a nonprofit life sciences incubator based in Kentucky, to strengthen the state's life sciences ecosystem. This collaboration aims to identify gaps, map life science innovation, and bioeconomy resources across the state.
LifeSciKY focuses on connecting innovations with critical resources, such as lab space, equipment, partnerships, and networking opportunities. The goal is to accelerate science, entrepreneurship, education, and economic development in Kentucky.
One of the key objectives of this partnership is to enhance statewide access to life science labs and innovation spaces. This will help support the growth of startups and foster a conducive environment for research and job creation.
Christin Godale, Ph.D., the Executive Director of LifeSciKY, expressed her excitement about the collaboration's potential for innovative excellence and research impact. She is involved in advancing Kentuckyβs life sciences sector through projects like the OneNKY Center in Covington, which aims to foster research and job creation in the region.
Ian McClure, UK HealthCare vice president for innovation and UK Innovate executive director, stated that this partnership will help ensure discoveries made in Kentucky can grow into companies, jobs, and real-world impact. He believes this collaboration will play a significant role in making Kentucky a hub for life sciences innovation.
LifeSciKY also aims to support Northern Kentucky and the Greater Cincinnati region to become an engine for company and talent recruitment and job creation. This partnership is expected to bring about a transformative change in the life sciences sector in Kentucky, fostering a vibrant and dynamic ecosystem that encourages innovation and entrepreneurship.
