In a bid to strengthen democratic engagement at the local level, promote social cohesion, and prevent extremism, the city of Luenen has partnered with the "Partnership for Democracy" as part of the nationwide network of over 300 local partnerships with the start of the new funding period of the federal program "Democracy Lives!".

The lead in Luenen is taken by the "Integrated Social Planning & Participation" team of the city administration, which is part of the Department of Social Affairs. Stefan Wrazidlo from the AWO district office Ruhr-Lippe-Ems is overseeing the coordination and specialist office within this partnership.

The city-wide poster campaign, launched on August 28, 2025, is aimed at raising awareness about the upcoming local election on September 14, 2025. The campaign includes two newly designed motifs, which are now on display throughout the city, including in schools and youth facilities.

The poster campaign in Luenen specifically targets young people, emphasizing their importance in the democratic process. Young people aged 16 and above in the city of Luenen are eligible to vote in the upcoming election.

The campaign is non-partisan, focusing on encouraging participation in the democratic process rather than endorsing any particular political party. The aim is to foster a culture of active citizenship and to ensure that the voices of all residents are heard.

The "Partnership for Democracy Luenen" is funded by the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. The partnership supports project ideas, connects actors, and advises on funding opportunities. The AWO district office Ruhr-Lippe-Ems carries the coordination and specialist office for the partnership in Luenen.

This city-wide poster campaign in Luenen is part of a larger nationwide effort to strengthen democratic engagement. By encouraging young people to participate in the democratic process, the hope is to foster a more informed and engaged citizenry, and to create a more inclusive and cohesive society.
