The Technical University of Dresden (TUD) and the United Nations University (UNU) have joined forces to establish a new center called UNU-Hub Climate Resilience and Sustainable Technology (CREST). The announcement was made during the Dresden Nexus Conference 2025, which took place from April 8 to 10, 2025, in Dresden.

Prof. Ursula Staudinger, Rector of TUD, expressed her pleasure at taking this important step, stating that the founding of the hub further strengthens international cooperation to develop solutions for climate change and resource scarcity. Prof. Tshilidzi Marwala, Rector of the United Nations University, reaffirmed the UNU's commitment to expand partnerships and turn knowledge into action.

The goal of CREST is to create a strong international network that collectively addresses the challenges of climate change. CREST will promote innovative learning programs for resource efficiency and climate protection in an international context. Interdisciplinary research at CREST serves as a basis for promoting climate-resistant infrastructures, adaptive water management, and circular technologies.

The new center, under the leadership of Prof. Jürgen Stamm and Dr. André Lindner, will be a central hub for interdisciplinary exchange. Future engineers and political decision-makers will be trained for climate-related issues at CREST. Through active collaboration with political decision-makers, companies, and communities, CREST aims to bridge the gap between science and practice.

The Dresden Nexus Conference 2025 served as a platform for the launch of CREST and a forum for discussing innovative concepts for sustainable resource use. Participants from over 75 countries attended the conference, making it unique in its networking of sustainable research.

The UNU hub will ensure that technological innovations have an impact in practice. CREST combines the expertise of both institutions in engineering and environmental sciences, with the aim of developing forward-looking solutions to improve global lives. The establishment of CREST further strengthens international cooperation to develop solutions for climate change and resource scarcity.

Prof. Staudinger stated that the Dresden Nexus Conference 2025 is unique in its networking of sustainable research. Despite searches, no specific information about Prof. Jürgen Stamm's role with Dr. André Lindner and the CREST center's pre-development solutions could be found in the available sources. However, this does not detract from the significant milestone that the establishment of CREST represents in the fight against climate change and resource scarcity.
