Cleaning Methods for Amtico Flooring and Other LVT Types: A Guide
In the world of home renovation and design, luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring has become increasingly popular due to its durability, versatility, and aesthetic appeal. Two leading brands in this industry are Amtico and Karndean Designflooring. Here's a guide on how to maintain these stunning flooring options.
Amtico, a type of vinyl flooring, offers a range of safe cleaning products, which are the only ones recommended for use on their floors. For daily cleaning, the Amtico Signature Clean product line is ideal for parquet floors, while a pH-neutral cleaner approved for use on vinyl flooring can be used for other Amtico floors. A gentle sweep with a soft broom and a damp mop weekly is all that's needed for a sparkling clean.
When it comes to removing spot marks, Amtico Spillage Remover or Amtico Cleaner Maintainer can do the trick. For more stubborn stains, Amtico Stripper can be used with caution. However, for a thorough clean, professional services may be required.
Karndean Designflooring, another popular LVT brand, can be treated similarly to Amtico. Gavin Smith, the marketing director for Karndean, advises against vacuuming Karndean flooring to prevent trapped grit being dragged along the floor. Instead, it is recommended to dust mop first to remove anything sharp that may get trapped between the floor and vacuum and cause scratches.
Karndean offers a Floor Care Kit for self-cleaning, which includes three cleaning products, cleaning pads, and protective felt pads for furniture. The Karndean Remove solution is used to strip the top layer of the floor, while the Karndean Refresh solution recreates the satin finish and provides a protective layer.
Both Amtico and Karndean recommend the use of indoor and external mats to reduce the chance of dirt, grime, and grit being walked onto the floor. Household cleaners and bleach-based detergents should be avoided as they can make the floor slippery and/or cause discoloration. Using vinegar to clean vinyl flooring is not advised as the acidity can dull the surface.
Steam cleaning is not recommended for LVT flooring as it may cause tiles to become loose over time. Other flooring types may have cleaning products that are not developed specifically for LVT flooring and could leave sticky or slippery residues.
In high-traffic areas such as bathrooms, hallways, kitchens, and living rooms, Amtico and Karndean flooring is a common choice due to its resilience. For a daily clean, simply sweep with a soft broom and mop with Karndean Clean or any pH-neutral cleaner approved for use on vinyl flooring.
