City officials decide on the destruction of Halberstädter Straße and Brenneckstraße.
The Magdeburg City Council held a significant meeting on 28 August 2025, where they approved the demolition and subsequent construction of the dilapidated ring bridges over Halberstädter Straße and Brenneckestraße.
The decision comes as part of an extensive renewal plan for the city's infrastructure, with the total construction cost estimated at approximately 11.32 million euros. Of this amount, 3.96 million euros will be allocated for the demolition process, and 7.36 million euros for the construction and rental of temporary bridges.
The temporary bridges will play a crucial role in allowing trucks and cars to drive on the Magdeburg Ring again in the near future, as the demolition work on the Brenneckestraße bridge is expected to begin during the autumn holidays.
In the meantime, vehicle traffic on Brenneckestraße is being rerouted via the two Ring on-ramps to the next interchange and back. Pedestrian and cyclist traffic is being rerouted via the nearby pedestrian bridge between Bodestraße and Goslarer Straße.
The city administration is recommending a large-scale detour via the A14 for through traffic, although the specifics of this detour may have been discussed during the city council meeting.
The city council meeting may have also provided further updates or decisions regarding the bridge project. Information about the bridges and the traffic situation on the Magdeburg Ring can be found on the city's website at www.magdeburg.de/ErsatzneubauRingbruecken.
Planning for tendering procedures can now begin, with the city council having approved the construction of temporary bridges over the same streets. The Magdeburg City Council aims to keep the public informed throughout the project, providing updates and information on their website.
It's worth noting that the Finance Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, who would be the financial partner for the city administration of Magdeburg in the Ringbrücken renewal plan, is Rüdiger Malter, serving as State Secretary in the Ministry of Finance as of September 2025.
The reopening of traffic at Damaschkeplatz and on the Magdeburg Ring has created important relief, marking a significant step forward in the city's ongoing infrastructure development. A recording of the city council meeting is available for those interested in learning more about the discussions and decisions made.
