In a series of recent developments, National Guard reservists and federal law enforcement agencies have been deployed in several major American cities, sparking controversy and political tension.

Currently, over 1900 National Guard reservists are stationed in Washington D.C., alongside police from federal agencies such as the FBI, ICE, and DEA. The city's streets have seen the presence of armored vehicles near the train station and along the National Mall.

Similarly, cities like Los Angeles and Chicago have also seen the deployment of National Guard troops and Marines since June and August 12, respectively. However, New York City, despite Department of Defense preparations for weeks, has yet to receive a National Guard deployment.

The American president, Donald Trump, has made remarks about the need to intervene in cities like Chicago and New York, but there is no official confirmation of such deployments. Trump has accused American Democrats of manufacturing crises to justify sending National Guard troops to opposition-controlled megacities, a claim that has been met with pushback.

Illinois' Democratic governor, JB Pritzker, has stated that his state will not let a dictator impose his will on them, suggesting a potential resistance to any unofficial federal intervention. Maryland's governor, Wes Moore, has echoed similar sentiments, stating that he would not allow the Maryland National Guard to be used against crime, deeming it unconstitutional.

CNN's House Democratic leader, Hakeem Jeffries, has asserted that Donald Trump has no legal basis to send federal troops to Chicago. This statement comes in response to Trump's threats to send federal law enforcement to the city.

It is important to note that National Guard reservists are authorized to use force only as a last resort and in response to an imminent threat of death or serious bodily injury. They are not supposed to intervene against crime, riots, or protests.

Governor Wes Moore of Maryland has proposed a "walk" in Baltimore to dispel the "lies spewed" against the security progress made in Maryland. This initiative aims to counter the negative portrayal of the city by the president, who has previously referred to Baltimore as "out of control" and infested with crime.

As the situation continues to unfold, it is crucial for all parties involved to uphold the principles of constitutional democracy and maintain peace and order in the affected cities. The Department of Defense has made no comment on the matter, leaving many questions unanswered.
