In the world of German cinema, a sequel has made a splash, reaching a significant milestone and earning a prestigious award. The comedy "The Canoe of Manitu," directed by Michael Bully Herbig, has sold an impressive 3 million cinema tickets, according to the latest reports.

This achievement places "The Canoe of Manitu" as the third most successful film of the year, trailing behind "The Minecraft Movie" (3.5 million tickets sold) and "Lilo & Stitch" (2.733,045 visitors). However, it's worth noting that neither "The Minecraft Movie" nor "Lilo & Stitch" have received the "Golden Screen" award yet, a distinction that "The Canoe of Manitu" can now proudly claim.

The "Golden Screen" is a coveted honour bestowed by the Association of German Film Theatres, and "The Canoe of Manitu" joins the ranks of other celebrated films. Interestingly, it's only the third film this year to receive this award, following in the footsteps of its predecessor, "The Shoe of Manitu" (2001), which also received a "Golden Screen with 2 stars."

Michael Bully Herbig, the director of "The Canoe of Manitu," celebrated this achievement on Instagram, expressing his gratitude to the audience for their support. The film, a sequel to "The Shoe of Manitu," is the latest offering from the Munich cultural scene and has been well-received by German audiences.

Despite its success, "The Canoe of Manitu" still has a way to go to catch up with the ticket sales of its predecessor, which sold over 11 million tickets in 2001. Meanwhile, it's possible that "The Canoe of Manitu" could overtake "The Minecraft Movie" as the most successful film of the year in Germany as early as next weekend.

Interestingly, "The Canoe of Manitu" has had a faster run to the sound barrier compared to "The Minecraft Movie" and "Lilo & Stitch." This weekend, it lost the top spot in the German cinema charts to "Conjuring 4," which had the best start of a horror film outside the USA. Nevertheless, "The Canoe of Manitu" remains a shining star in the German cinema landscape.

On the other hand, "Conjuring 4" has taken the lead in the German cinema charts this weekend, marking a strong start for the horror film. With "The Canoe of Manitu" and "Conjuring 4" leading the way, it's an exciting time for German cinema, with both films offering unique and captivating experiences for audiences.
