Christmas trams in Munich will operate for several days during this year
In the heart of Munich, a beloved tradition is set to make a comeback. The Christkindl Tram, a nostalgic vehicle that has been a staple of the city's winter festivities since 1994, will run once more, albeit with some changes due to technical reasons and staff shortages.
The Christkindl Tram, which was first introduced by the Action Munich Passengers, will operate on weekends this year, thanks to the Munich Transport Company (MVG). The modern vehicle, a newer, more accessible tram, will replace the historic one that had become in need of maintenance.
The MVG, responsible for continuing the Christkindl Tram tradition, has announced that the modern vehicle will provide easier access for strollers and people with physical disabilities, making the experience more inclusive for all.
The 2024 schedule includes trips on Fridays at 15:30, 16:15, 17:00, 17:45, 18:30, 19:15, Saturdays at 11:00, 11:45, 12:30, 13:15, 14:00, 14:45, 15:30, 16:15, 17:00, 17:45, 18:30, 19:15, and Sundays at 11:00, 11:45, 12:30, 13:15, 14:00, 14:45, 15:30, 16:15, 17:00, 17:45, 18:30, 19:15.
Despite the change in the operational vehicle, Munich's Mayor, Dieter Reiter, has expressed his disappointment about the nostalgic vehicle not being operational but emphasized that the tradition should not be abandoned. He initiated the continuation of the Christkindl Tram tradition, ensuring that the spirit of the past remains alive in the modern version.
Unfortunately, trips for the Christkindl Tram were cancelled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and have not resumed yet. However, with the city slowly returning to normal, the Christkindl Tram is making a much-anticipated return to celebrate its 30th anniversary.
As for the future of the nostalgic museum train, no information about a potential change in the operational vehicle was provided in the article. Regardless, the Christkindl Tram continues to be a cherished part of Munich's winter festivities, offering a glimpse into the city's past while ensuring accessibility for all.
