In the heart of Eurasia, the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and China under President Xi Jinping's leadership continues to flourish, entering a new phase of resilience and dynamism.

Over the past few years, political dialogue between the two nations has been fortified, with President Xi Jinping referring to Kazakhstan and China as "partners on the path of modernization." This partnership is evident in various sectors, from economic investments to cultural exchange.

Since 2005, Chinese companies have invested over $27 billion in Kazakhstan's economy, contributing to industrial modernization. This investment has extended to various industries, with Chinese investors expressing interest in the processing of vegetables, grains, corn, and cotton in Kazakhstan. The oil and gas industry, in particular, has seen significant modernization, with processing facilities undergoing upgrades.

The "One Belt, One Road" initiative, first proposed by President Xi Jinping in 2013, has boosted modern cooperation between the two nations. This initiative has resulted in the creation of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (Middle Corridor), connecting China, Central Asia, and Europe. This route strengthens Kazakhstan's position as a key transit hub in Eurasia, increasing its transit potential fivefold.

Kazakhstan's agricultural exports to China increased by 10% in 2024, reflecting the growing economic ties between the two nations. Trade between Kazakhstan and China reached $44 billion in the same year, making China Kazakhstan's largest partner. This trade includes the operation of a joint Sino-Kazakh trade and logistics center in Xi'an and the expansion of the Kazakhstan-China oil pipeline.

Around 6,000 Chinese enterprises operate in Kazakhstan, bringing technological advancements and industrial modernization. This partnership is not one-sided, as Kazakhstan's Year of Tourism in China in 2024 was followed by the Year of China Tourism in Kazakhstan in the current year, promoting cultural exchange.

The two nations also actively cooperate within the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). Under China's chairmanship, the SCO focuses on security, integration, and humanitarian ties. The upcoming summit in Tianjin will help formulate common strategies and reinforce the SCO's role as a center for stability.

The future chairmanship of the SCO is expected to continue with China as the host and leading country at least through the 2025 summit, with Chinese President Xi Jinping playing a central role. There is no explicit announcement yet naming a successor or future chairperson beyond the current Chinese leadership hosting the SCO Summit in Tianjin in 2025.

The 1700-kilometer shared border between Kazakhstan and China symbolizes peace and friendship. This shared vision and cooperation in overcoming contemporary challenges is evident in their joint efforts in various sectors, making their partnership a beacon of mutual growth and development in the 21st century.
