Chinese businessman accused of stealing HKD 569,000 casino jackpot in Macau
A mainland Chinese businessman, surnamed Tang, faces accusations of stealing a HKD 569,000 jackpot from another gambler in a Macau casino. The incident unfolded on 7 November after Tang allegedly refused to share the winnings despite an agreement to play on the victim's behalf. The dispute began when the victim handed Tang HKD 1,000 to play slot machines on his behalf. The two had met earlier in the month through a mutual friend at the casino. When Tang hit a jackpot worth nearly HKD 569,000, he reportedly attempted to leave without sharing the prize.
The victim raised the alarm with casino security after Tang tried to flee with the cash. Authorities later seized a mobile phone linked to the case, though no money was found in Tang's possession. Two days after the incident, Tang turned himself in but refused to assist with the investigation. This case follows two similar incidents in Macau casinos over the past two years. In January 2025, a manipulated jackpot of 100 million MOP was reported at MGM Casino. Another fraud involving 80 million MOP occurred at The Venetian Macao in October 2025. Both cases were investigated by the Macau Judicial Police.
The case has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office for further action. It centres on a serious breach of trust between the two gamblers. No further details have been released about the ongoing investigation.
