Children voice their concerns during town hall meeting

In a remarkable display of civic engagement, ten children from Bamberg-South visited the city hall last week. Accompanied by BasKIDhall director Pauline Haag and Johann Heisenstein, the young visitors embarked on a tour of the historic Maxplatz building, which was originally constructed as a seminary over 300 years ago.

During the tour, the children showed a keen interest in the town hall's history, asking numerous questions and demonstrating a commendable level of knowledge. Their curiosity extended to the workings of the city administration and the role of a mayor, with specific questions directed towards Mayor Andreas Starke.

Mayor Starke was impressed by the children's commitment and expressed his appreciation for their active involvement in shaping their surroundings. He agreed to have the city administration examine their wishes, which included a cozy place to sunbathe on the terrace of the BasKIDhall, the installation of a table tennis table and a slide on the current interim facility in front of the BasKIDhall, and concerns about the football pitch at the Spielplatz Gereuth, where stones and glass shards often make playing difficult.

Educational advisor Gabriele Kepic was present at the meeting and praised the BasKIDhall project as an important anchor point in the neighbourhood. She highlighted its significance and commended the children for their active participation.

The city administration has pledged to examine the children's wishes positively, ensuring that their voices are heard and their concerns addressed. This visit serves as a shining example of the power of youthful enthusiasm and the potential for meaningful dialogue between young citizens and local government.
