Chief publication: Chicago Sky temporarily benches Angel Reese for half a game due to 'harmful' remarks towards teammates
Chicago Sky's Angel Reese Suspended for Criticising Team
In a surprising turn of events, Chicago Sky's Angel Reese has been suspended for the first half of the team's upcoming game against the Las Vegas Aces. The suspension, announced on Friday, comes as a result of Reese's critical comments about her teammates, which she made in an interview with the Chicago Tribune.
Reese, who is in her second WNBA season, has expressed her concern about the team's current state, citing the need for younger players with championship credentials. Her comments, however, were taken out of context according to Reese herself.
The matter has been handled and resolved internally within the Chicago Sky. Reese has since apologised for her comments, acknowledging her teammates' efforts and showing a desire to attract top talent to the team during the offseason.
This suspension means Reese will miss Friday night's game against the Fever, as well as the Sky's next three halves of basketball. The team, currently 10-30, has been eliminated from playoff contention.
It's not the first time a player from the Chicago Sky has been suspended. On September 7, 2022, the team suspended Courtney Vandersloot for surpassing the technical foul limit.
Despite the disappointing season, Reese remains hopeful and is fed up with losing. She has called on the organisation to make changes to the roster, aiming to bring in players who can help turn the team's fortunes around.
The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player, and is committed to accountability. As the season draws to a close, the team will be looking to regroup and prepare for a stronger showing in the 2023 season.
