Chicago Man Wins $1 Million from a Scratch-Off Ticket at Local Mobil Station
A Chicago man has won $1 million from a scratch-off ticket bought at a local Mobil station. Ashur Al Rahib, a resident of West Ridge, claimed the prize after purchasing a $10 Red Hot Millions game. The lucky ticket was sold at the Mobil gas station on 2500 W. Peterson Avenue. Al Rahib visited the Mobil station on a routine trip when store associate Romy Singh helped him pick the winning ticket. Singh covered the game names and let him choose at random. The ticket turned out to be a top-prize winner in the Illinois Lottery's Red Hot Millions game.
The store will receive a $10,000 bonus—one percent of the prize—for selling the winning ticket. This year alone, over 10.7 million scratch-off tickets have been sold across Illinois, paying out more than $279 million in prizes. Records show that, between April 2024 and April 2026, no other Mobil gas stations in the state reported annual scratch-off profits exceeding $1 million. The highest earnings came from fixed locations, such as the Oakbrook Mobil, which reached $1.2 million in 2024. Al Rahib has clear plans for his winnings. He intends to buy a small building to open a meat market and bakery. A portion of the money will also go toward a donation to his church.
The $1 million win marks one of the largest scratch-off prizes in Illinois this year. The Mobil station on W. Peterson Avenue will benefit from the bonus, while Al Rahib prepares to invest in his business and community. His story adds to the growing list of lottery winners from the state's popular games.
