Chicago extends four-year, $88 million offer to Josh Giddey
In the ongoing saga of the Chicago Bulls' efforts to secure the future of their star point guard, Josh Giddey, the team has increased their contract extension offer. According to NBA insider Bobby Marks, the new offer stands at a lucrative four-year deal worth approximately $88 million.
Giddey, an unsigned restricted free agent along with Jonathan Kuminga and Quentin Grimes, has been at the centre of negotiations for a long-term contract extension with the Bulls. The deal, if agreed upon, would reflect the Bulls' commitment to building a competitive team around the young talent and provide Giddey with financial security as a key franchise player.
The initial offer from the Bulls was a four-year, $80 million contract extension, a figure that has now been slightly increased. This new offer comes as a response to Giddey's request for a more substantial deal, mirroring the $32.5 million annually that the Raptors recently gave to Immanuel Quickley. Giddey's representation believes a similar number can be secured for their client.
The trade that brought Giddey to the Bulls was completed during the 2024 offseason, with Alex Caruso going to the Oklahoma City Thunder. In the 2024-25 season, Giddey played in 70 of 82 games for the Bulls and made 69 starts, averaging 14.6 points per game, a career-high 8.1 rebounds, 7.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.
However, it is uncertain if Giddey and the Bulls will reach a contract extension this offseason. Giddey could choose to sign the one-year qualifying offer and bet on himself, as Brooklyn's Cam Thomas is doing. If he were to do so, he would have a no-trade clause next year and be an unrestricted free agent to begin the 2026 offseason.
Marks, in his analysis, suggested that Chicago should invest in Giddey if they believe he is their point guard of the future. Steph Curry will be the highest-paid point guard in 2025-26 with a salary of just under $54 million, a figure that Giddey could potentially match if he signs the Bulls' latest offer.
As the offseason progresses, the Bulls and Giddey's representatives will continue to negotiate, aiming to secure a deal that benefits both parties and sets the stage for a promising future for the franchise.
