An immigrant seeking asylum in the US is claiming a $1,250 slot machine jackpot from Bally’s Chicago. The casino has refused to pay out, citing the player’s legal status as the reason for withholding the winnings. The dispute follows 11 previous jackpot wins by the same player at the venue, all of which were paid without issue. Under Illinois Gaming Board rules, casinos must verify a patron’s identification for any win of $1,200 or more. Accepted documents include a driver’s licence, passport, Social Security card, or an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN). Some states also issue limited-term REAL IDs to individuals with temporary lawful status. The player in question reportedly provided identification when claiming earlier jackpots. However, Bally’s Chicago has not explained why the latest payout was denied. The casino has also declined to comment on the allegations. No official records confirm a slot jackpot win over $1,200 at Bally’s Chicago on 20 December that remains unpaid due to a player’s legal status. The case highlights the requirements for casino payouts in Illinois. Without valid identification, players may face difficulties collecting winnings. The outcome of this dispute remains unresolved, with no further statements from the casino or the player.
