Cheng, the renowned fashion designer, reveals his preferred eateries in New York City.

In the bustling city of New York, fashion designer Cho Cheng, known for his glamorous and seductive designs, finds inspiration not only in the fashion world but also in the city's rich culinary scene.

Born in Hong Kong and raised amidst the world of fashion and haute couture, Cho Cheng's love for the industry runs deep. His grandmother, Betty Charnius, was a successful costume designer, fashion designer, and entrepreneur, with a career that spanned across Shanghai and Hollywood. It seems that the creative gene is a family affair.

Cho Cheng's current collection, to be showcased at New York Fashion Week, is inspired by the 1957 film "Witness for the Prosecution." The designs feature elements of Dior and Hitchcock, creating a glamorous, ladylike, and seductive aesthetic. In keeping with his belief that food should look good, smell good, and taste good, Cho Cheng places a high emphasis on using natural materials in his clothing designs, making them more comfortable, breathable, and good for the skin.

When he's not immersed in the world of fashion, Cho Cheng enjoys exploring the city's diverse food scene. One of his favourite restaurants is The Grand Central Oyster Bar, which he finds impressive and a representation of Manhattan. Another favourite is The Carlyle bar, conveniently located in his neighbourhood and offering a good selection of cheese and a Cobb Salad that he enjoys.

The 21 Club, a historic and cozy establishment, is another favourite haunt. Not only does it offer a comfortable atmosphere, but it's also a place where Cho Cheng's friends do business. The 21 Club's wine cellar and the history it carries add to its charm.

Nom Wah Tea Parlor, an old Chinese dim sum restaurant, is a cool place to hang out with friends. Affordable and authentic, it's a welcome break from the hustle and bustle of the city.

During Fashion Week, Cho Cheng mostly eats at Starbucks, as nobody working at the event has any time to sit down and enjoy a lunch or dinner. However, The Palm Court at The Plaza Hotel, a place where North by Northwest was filmed, is his mother's favourite place to have tea.

The 21 Club also serves as an icebreaker for business lunches or dinners with strangers. Its ambiance and history make for a comfortable and engaging setting.

Cho Cheng studied fashion at Parsons in New York, immersing himself further in the city's fashion scene. His designs, inspired by his heritage and the city he calls home, continue to captivate audiences worldwide.
