Charles Furey wins PokerStars Open Maryland **Main Event** after delaying surgery

Charles Furey has won the PokerStars Open Maryland Main Event, taking home $111,976. The victory came after he postponed neck surgery to compete in the high-stakes tournament. His dominant performance included a flawless heads-up showdown against Melanie Hennigan.

The $1,100 buy-in event attracted 599 players, creating a prize pool of $581,030—nearly double the advertised $300,000 guarantee. Furey entered heads-up play at a 2-to-1 chip disadvantage but quickly turned the tables.

The tournament concluded on 30 October 2025 at Live! Casino & Hotel in Hanover, Maryland. Furey’s victory earned him both the top prize and a PokerStars trophy. His decision to delay surgery paid off with a six-figure win.
