Certified Fair Trade Symbol

Heidenoldendorf Main School, located in Detmold, has made history as the only comprehensive public school in the city to receive Fairtrade certification. This milestone marks a significant step towards a future-oriented education that emphasises global responsibility, solidarity, and sustainability.

The school's commitment to Fairtrade is not a one-time event, but a daily practice that permeates every aspect of school life. Teacher Franziska Altmann, who initiated and led the project, has been instrumental in anchoring sustainability in the school's daily routine.

In her speech, Altmann emphasised that Fairtrade means taking responsibility for a fairer world, sustainable action, and conscious consumption. The school's Fairtrade certification is accompanied by a diverse framework program, including the "Fairtrade Football Cup", food stands offering fair-trade products, and a clothing swap event.

The "Fairtrade Football Cup" focuses on fair play and conscious resource use, while the clothing swap event underscores the school's commitment to environmental protection and social responsibility. Principal Katrin Freitag expressed pride in her school for its commitment, creativity, and unity.

Freitag's goal is to continue strengthening awareness of global interconnections among students and to embed sustainability even more deeply in school life. She thanked everyone involved, including students, teaching staff, the Fairtrade Detmold steering group, representatives of the city portal, Michael Düchting from Fairtrade Schools Germany, and Mayor Wolfgang Schriegel.

The school received the certification in recognition of its commitment to fair trade and sustainable practices. The award serves as recognition and motivation for future efforts. The success of Heidenoldendorf Main School's Fairtrade certification sets a strong example for other schools, demonstrating that sustainable education can be both achievable and impactful.
