Cerritos Dons Clinch Fifth Consecutive League Title with Impressive Win

The Cerritos Dons have once again proven their dominance in the league, securing their fifth straight title with a convincing 36-7 victory over Artesia High. This win also marks the Dons' 15th consecutive league victory.

The story of the night on the offensive side was junior quarterback Justin Sagun, who expertly distributed passes to wide receiver Ruben Castro, running back Dikshanta Adhikari, and tight end Josiah Ungos. Adhikari scored a five-yard touchdown run nearly three and a half minutes into the fourth quarter, while Ungos received an eight-yard touchdown pass from Sagun with four minutes left in the game.

The defensive unit also shone brightly, with key interceptions from juniors Labrenten Wilson, Michael Quibrantar, and Uriah Archie. Wilson intercepted senior quarterback Charlie Lopez on the first play of the fourth quarter, Quibrantar snatched one with two minutes left in the first quarter, and Archie intercepted Lopez with 1:45 remaining in the game.

Brad Carter, the third-year head coach of the Dons, will now lead his team to top-ranked Highland High for their next game. If they manage to secure a win, they will square off against Burbank High or Monrovia High in the quarterfinals.

Artesia High, who attended the game with high hopes, have reached the playoffs in five of the last six non-pandemic seasons. Despite the loss, the Pioneers will face Artesia High or Desert Hot Springs High in their next game. The winner of this match will face either top-ranked Gahr High or La Puente High in the quarterfinals.

In an exciting turn of events, Cerritos High's senior running back Adhikari also scored an 11-yard pass from Sagun in the second quarter. To add to the Dons' points, senior wide receiver Castro returned the second half kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown.

Artesia High will visit Desert Hot Springs High in their next game. The Pioneers reached the Division 14 semifinals last season, adding an extra layer of challenge to their upcoming match.

As the playoffs approach, the Dons continue to demonstrate their prowess, leaving spectators eager to see how far they can go this season.
