CEO of Lucid steps down, company hunting for long-term replacement
In a significant move for electric vehicle manufacturer Lucid, co-founder and CEO Peter Rawlinson has announced his resignation from his role. The company made the announcement in a regulatory filing on Tuesday.
Rawlinson, who was instrumental in the development of the Lucid Air, will be stepping down after a successful tenure that saw the launch of the luxury electric sedan. With the opening of orders for its latest offering, the Gravity SUV, in November, Rawlinson felt it was the right time to step down.
In his new role, Rawlinson will transition to a strategic technical advisor to board Chairman Turqi Alnowaiser. He will be paid $120,000 a month for his advisory position at Lucid.
Taking over as interim CEO is Marc Winterhoff, who has been serving as COO at Lucid since December 2023. Winterhoff's focus as interim CEO will be leading Lucid toward continued growth and profitability. The regulatory filing did not provide details about the duration of Winterhoff's interim CEO term.
Winterhoff is well-equipped for the role, having previously served as Lucid's COO and later as interim CEO following the departure of Peter Rawlinson. Before joining Lucid, Winterhoff worked for business consulting firm Roland Berger, focusing on operational leadership and managing manufacturing and cost efficiencies for large OEMs.
Under Winterhoff's leadership, Lucid's focus will be on ramping production of the Lucid Gravity, preparing for the launch of three midsize platform vehicles, and continuing development of the low-cost Atlas drive unit while aggressively reducing costs.
Emad Dlala was promoted to SVP of powertrain at Lucid on February 13. Taoufiq Boussaid was appointed as the CFO of Lucid last month.
Rawlinson, before joining Lucid, spent a decade at Tesla, eventually becoming VP of vehicle engineering and chief engineer of the Model S sedan. Before working at Tesla, he spent time at Jaguar, eventually becoming principal engineer working on advanced body structure design.
Winterhoff is prepared to lead Lucid in its next phase, and with the team in place, the company is poised for continued success in the electric vehicle market.
