CD Projekt Red Confirmably Announce Updates for The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2

In a significant development for the gaming industry, CD Projekt Red, the acclaimed developer behind the Witcher and Cyberpunk series, has confirmed that both The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 are in various stages of production.

The first glimpse of The Witcher 4 was unveiled in a cinematic trailer at The Game Awards 2024 in December. Since then, a tech demo has been shown, marking the first appearance of Kovir in the series. Notably, Ciri, the protagonist of the upcoming game, has undergone the Trial of the Grasses, transforming her into a powerful warrior.

While the game is still in full-scale production, no specific details about the plot or setting have been revealed. However, it is known that Geralt will play a secondary role, with Ciri taking centre stage.

The tech demo, shown at Unreal Fest in June, showcased some of the technology from Unreal Engine 5. The demo did not depict actual gameplay from the game itself.

Simultaneously, work for Cyberpunk 2 (formerly known as Project Orion) has entered the pre-production phase. This initial planning stage involves collaboration between various departments, including writers, artists, and developers. However, no further specific details about the project were revealed in the article.

CD Projekt Red's development staff has expanded significantly, with a total of 69 new hires across both projects. The planning and development of The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2 involve large teams at CD Projekt Red. About 444 people are working on The Witcher 4, and 116 are working on Cyberpunk 2. Notable personnel include narrative lead Philipp Weber for The Witcher 4 and cinematic director Andrzej Stopa, who works on Cyberpunk 2.

As CD Projekt Red continues to grow its workforce, reaching nearly 800 employees across multiple projects, fans eagerly await more information about these highly anticipated titles.
