CCP Pasinaya evolves into the Philippines' largest multi-arts festival
The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Pasinaya: The Open House Festival has grown from a small event into the country's largest multi-arts celebration. What began in 2005 with just resident companies and 1,000 attendees now draws over 40,000 visitors each year. This year's theme, Paglikha sa Kinabukasan (Creation for the Future), highlights its role in fostering artistic exchange and supporting Filipino talent.
CCP Pasinaya started modestly in 2005, featuring only in-house groups. By 2010, it had expanded to include emerging ensembles like the Lipa Actors Company (LAC), founded in 2008. Originally a local theatre group, LAC evolved into an innovative company blending contemporary Philippine drama with multimedia and immersive techniques. Their interactive performances, introduced in 2015, marked a shift in their artistic direction.
The festival faced challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, moving online in 2020. Despite this, it returned in 2023 with renewed energy, attracting performing arts groups from across the Philippines. LAC, now with over 40 members, has grown structurally too—opening a Quezon City studio in 2018 and partnering with international festivals like the Edinburgh Fringe by 2022. Longtime participants like Komedya ng Don Galo (KDG) have been part of Pasinaya since its early years. Both KDG and LAC will feature in the 2026 edition, with KDG presenting *Komedya Palanyag* to engage young audiences and LAC staging a reimagined *Ang Pag-ibig ni Kumintang*. Beyond Pasinaya, LAC has also performed at major events, including the World Wildlife Fund's *Sigaw ng Kalikasan* in Cebu (2024) and the Singapore International Festival of Arts (2025).
CCP Pasinaya continues to serve as a platform for artistic growth and collaboration. The festival's expansion—from 1,000 attendees in 2005 to over 40,000 today—reflects its importance in Philippine culture. With upcoming performances and international partnerships, it remains a key event for both established and emerging Filipino artists.
