catastrophic seismic activities in Afghanistan: Germany extends financial assistance of 2.1 million euros to relief agencies

In the aftermath of a devastating earthquake in eastern Afghanistan, the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin has announced a substantial allocation of €2.1 million for humanitarian aid. The funds will be directed towards providing essential resources for the affected population, including food, drinking water, temporary shelters, sanitation facilities, and medical care.

The earthquake, which occurred on Monday night, resulted in the tragic loss of at least 2,200 lives, with thousands more left homeless. No new details about the affected regions or the number of injured individuals have been provided.

While the timeline for the distribution of the funds remains undisclosed, the spokesperson for the Federal Foreign Office underscored the necessity of providing humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. They emphasized that the situation in the country is not in Germany's interest to become more unstable.

It is worth noting that the funds will not be given to the Afghan Taliban government but will instead be provided to international organizations. The international aid organisations in Germany, such as Help – Hilfe zur Selbsthilfe and the German Red Cross (DRK), will use the donation sum for earthquake reconstruction projects in cooperation with the Turkish Red Crescent and the Afghan Red Crescent.

The spokesperson also highlighted the importance of international aid, despite tight budgets. They expressed that there is no alternative to providing humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. No additional contributions from other countries were mentioned in the announcement.

Despite the challenges, Germany remains committed to providing humanitarian aid in Afghanistan. The country's support serves as a testament to the global community's solidarity in times of crisis and the shared responsibility to aid those in need.
