News Article: Controversies and Drama Surrounding Nip/Tuck's Star-Studded Cast

The popular television series Nip/Tuck, which aired from 2003 to 2010, was not just known for its gripping storylines and talented cast, but also for the controversies that surrounded some of its stars.

Vanessa Redgrave, the 88-year-old English actress who played a recurring role as Erica Noughton, made headlines in 1978 when she used the phrase 'Zionist hoodlums' in her Oscar acceptance speech, sparking intense backlash. Fast forward to 2009, and Redgrave faced another tragic loss when her daughter Natasha passed away from a traumatic brain injury caused by a skiing accident.

Another actress who courted controversy was Willam Belli, a drag queen who portrayed the trans character Cherry Peck on Nip/Tuck. Belli, 43, has been in the limelight since their stint on RuPaul's Drag Race in 2012, with various controversies following them. In 2012, they were disqualified from the show for a series of rule violations, including allegedly providing cannabis and alcohol to other contestants.

Sanaa Lathan, who portrayed Michelle Landau on season four of Nip/Tuck, has also had her fair share of controversy. In 2018, rumors emerged suggesting she bit Beyoncé at a party. A year later, a video resurfaced showing Lathan, 53, partying with Sean Combs, causing headlines once again. Actress Tiffany Haddish later confirmed Lathan was the biter, but Lathan has continued to deny the accusation.

In 2013, Famke Janssen called police to report a break-in at her Manhattan apartment, but police found no evidence of a break-in. Janssen, 60, had a recurring role as Ava Moore on Nip/Tuck.

Rhona Mitra, who played Kit McGraw during season three of Nip/Tuck, fell ill with an autoimmune disorder in 2012, which she claimed was due to a vaccine injury. In 2015, Mitra, 49, was barred from re-entering the US after a mix-up with her surname.

Behind the scenes, the production of Nip/Tuck was not without its own dramas. In 2023, Ryan Murphy faced criticism for allegedly refusing to halt production for American Horror Story season 12 amid SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes. However, Murphy launched a fund to support past and current stars and crew members of his projects during the strike, starting with $500,000.

Brad Falchuk, the writer and executive producer of Nip/Tuck, suffered a serious health scare during his time working on the show in 2008, with a tumor on his spinal cord nearly leaving him paralysed. Falchuk, 54, became close friends with Ryan Murphy during their years working together.

Joely Richardson, who played Julia McNamara on Nip/Tuck, made headlines when she married Jonathan Bricklin after her separation from Tim Bevan.

Vanessa Redgrave's brother Corin died in 2010 following decades of battling with prostate cancer. Less than a month later, Redgrave's younger sister Lynn died from breast cancer.

These incidents serve as a reminder that even in the glamorous world of Hollywood, controversies and personal struggles are never far away.
