Casino earnings in Colorado see a 2.9% yearly boost in June revenues
Colorado Casinos See Strong Revenue Growth in June 2021
In a report published by Charlotte Capewell, it was revealed that Colorado's commercial casinos experienced a 2.9% increase in revenue in June 2021 compared to the same month in 2020. This growth comes as the state continues to recover from the impacts of the pandemic.
The report, however, did not provide information about the revenue changes in the other two regions apart from Central City. Central City, one of the three regions, recorded a revenue decline year-over-year in June 2021. Specifically, Central City saw a 12% decrease, with revenues falling from $7.8 million in 2024 to $6.9 million in 2025. On the other hand, Cripple Creek recorded a 6.3% increase in year-over-year casino revenue, from $15.2 million in June 2024 to $16.1 million in June 2025.
The Black Hawk casino region, the largest in terms of revenue, generated $73 million in June 2025, a 3% increase from $71 million in June 2024. It's worth noting that more than 90% of table games revenue in June 2025 came from the Black Hawk region, which generated $12.2 million.
Slots accounted for 86.1% of the state's total casino revenue in June 2025, totaling $82.6 million. Meanwhile, table games generated $13.3 million, a 4.2% yearly increase. The total casino revenue in June 2021 was $96 million, up from $93.2 million in June 2020.
The Colorado Department of Revenue categorizes casino revenue by regions, but no specific information about the individual performances of casinos was provided in this report. The report also did not provide the revenue figures for the Cripple Creek and Central City regions in June 2024.
Historically, Black Hawk generates the majority of casino revenue among the three regions, followed by Cripple Creek and Central City. These cities combined represent most of Colorado’s traditional casino gaming revenue. However, exact current revenue figures broken out by these three communities are not publicly detailed in the available commercial reports through mid-2025.
Colorado’s gaming market includes about 33 casinos (mainly in Black Hawk, Cripple Creek, and Central City), and its sports betting handle regularly exceeds $400-500 million monthly, underlining its robust gaming industry. The state has also seen significant tax revenue from sports betting, with over $113 million in sports betting tax income as of August 2025.
For detailed city-level casino revenue, the Colorado Division of Gaming or state gaming reports would be primary sources to consult.
The strong revenue growth in Colorado's casino industry, as seen in June 2021, is mainly attributed to the Black Hawk region, where casinos generated a 3% increase in revenue, amounting to $73 million. Meanwhile, the finance sector of the business industry, including casino-games like slots and table games, has been a significant contributor to the state's economy, with Colorado's gaming market comprising approximately 33 casinos and sports betting handle regularly exceeding $400-500 million monthly.
