Unleashing the Vegas Pub Wars: Station Casinos Takes On the Small-Scale Gaming Market

In a bold move, Las Vegas gambling heavyweight Station Casinos is gearing up to shake things up in the lucrative tavern business with the launch of its new neighborhood sports pubs. Kicking off this ambitious project with the opening of the first Seventy Six Tavern in October, Station Casinos is plotting to conquer yet another market segment.

With an already domineering presence in the local casino scene, thanks to properties like Red Rock Resort, Green Valley Ranch, and the year-old Durango Casino & Resort, boasting Strip-style amenities, the company has chosen a much cozier pond for its next venture. Its plans to launch numerous sports bars and gambling taverns are set to sweep through the Las Vegas Valley over the next couple of years.

The move has stirred anticipation and competition on a local level – particularly since Station Casinos is poised to directly challenge Golden Gaming, a regional tavern powerhouse operating 71 taverns under its PT's brand. Additionally, the company will find itself going head-to-head with the multitude of Dotty's establishments and other independent tavern operators across the valley.

Warming up the battlefield even more is the family business dimension – Golden Gaming's CEO, Blake Sartini, is the brother-in-law of Station's CEO and Vice Chairman, Frank Fertitta III and Lorenzo Fertitta. Tensions aren't likely to cool down now that the two companies are vying for control of the local, small-scale gaming market.

Station executives have played down any intention to target Golden Gaming, focusing instead on "fortifying relationships with local communities" by "strategically reaching more locals"[2]. Unlike resort-casinos with their myriad bells and whistles, they intend to work within the established limits of tavern licenses. Competitor PT's taverns, on the other hand, can only accommodate a maximum of 15 gaming devices, and Seventy Six Tavern positions itself as an upscale upgrade to the city's current sports bars, offering a variety of menu options.

At the debut Seventy Six Tavern in North Las Vegas, you'll find familiar pub fare alongside more inventive offerings, such as ahi tuna nachos and fried chicken street tacos. With an emphasis on quality, Seventy Six calls itself "the next generation of neighborhood taverns" boasting a high-end sports-viewing atmosphere and an elevated restaurant menu, led by chef Danny Wilkins[3].

With a focus on customer satisfaction, Seventy Six is offering an enticing selection of happy-hour foods and drinks for eight hours per day. The menu delights include loaded tots, pretzel bites, and a ham-and-cheese panini not regularly available. The gaming section features 15 bar-top systems, hosting the latest poker, blackjack, slot, and keno games. To reward loyalty, the VIP Club offers hourly in-game bonuses and monthly promotions for registered players.

After a successful launch, Station Casinos has plans to rapidly expand the Seventy Six Tavern brand starting in 2025. A second location is set to open in early 2025, adjacent to Aliante Casino, with construction on five new ground-up builds commencing shortly thereafter. By the end of 2025, Rihel estimates that at least six new Seventy Six Taverns will be up and running, each roughly 6,000 square feet in size, with a strategy to expand further throughout the valley[4].

Whether you're in the mood for a comfortable hangout feeling like a home away from home or looking for a relaxed gaming experience and an exceptional dining experience, Seventy Six Tavern seems poised to deliver.
