Case Without Owner Paves Way for Release from Prison - Federal Police Investigating Unclaimed Luggage

On the morning of September 1st, a hard-shell suitcase was reported on the S1 train at Bochum Central Station by a 45-year-old train driver. The responding officers, including the Federal Police's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, were called in to investigate the unattended suitcase.

No owner came forward despite announcements at Bochum Central Station. Consequently, the EOD team X-rayed the suitcase and expanded the cordon to include tracks 5, 6, and 7, as well as the pedestrian tunnel. The police evacuated the train and platform, cordoned off the area, and called in additional patrols.

The investigation involves reviewing video footage from the station and has initiated an investigation to identify the owner of the suitcase. The Federal Police is urging travelers not to leave their luggage unattended to prevent theft and unnecessary police measures. If a person leaves their luggage on a train or at a station, they should notify the railway company immediately.

After evaluating the images, the EOD team found the suitcase to be empty. The Federal Police's EOD team then opened the empty hard-shell suitcase. The luggage was handed over to the railway as found property.

The Federal Police has provided more information about the incident on their website (www.bundespolizei.de). Additional information can also be found at the contact address provided or by contacting the Federal Police Directorate Saint Augustin, the Federal Police Inspectorate Dortmund, or Björn Dahle, who can be reached by phone, mobile, or email as provided in the paragraph.

The track closures caused significant delays in operations. The Federal Police will claim costs associated with police measures from the person responsible for the unattended luggage. The public is advised to contact the Federal Police (@BPOL NRW) via Twitter for updates.

The Federal Police urges everyone to be vigilant and report any unattended luggage or suspicious activity to the authorities immediately for the safety and security of all.
