In a groundbreaking move, One Click LCA, a leading sustainability software provider based in Finland, has announced the acquisition of life-cycle assessment (LCA) platform SimaPro and its developer, PRé Sustainability. This merger aims to provide solutions for companies to assess and reduce product carbon footprints, helping them comply with regulations.

Founded in 1990, both SimaPro and PRé Sustainability have been pioneers in the field of LCA for three decades. SimaPro, a benchmark for transparency in LCA, has been a trusted tool for numerous industries. On the other hand, One Click LCA, established in 2021, offers an AI-powered software platform for construction and manufacturing, generating automated LCA and environmental product declarations (EPDs).

The new joint platform serves users in over 170 countries, combining One Click LCA's automation, scalability, and integration capabilities with SimaPro's industry-agnostic LCA modeling and PRe’s expertise and consulting services. This union provides tailored sectoral solutions for construction, manufacturing, consumer, and infrastructure sectors.

According to Eric Mieras, the Managing Director of PRé Sustainability, the merger will accelerate PRé Sustainability’s mission to scale LCA. He stated that joining One Click LCA enables them to bring scientific rigor and LCA robustness to a wider audience, supported by One Click LCA’s powerful technology and ease of use.

Panu Pasanen, the CEO & Founder of One Click LCA, echoed similar sentiments, calling the acquisition a pivotal moment in scaling the use of LCA. He believes that the combined forces of One Click LCA and SimaPro aim to meet the growing global demand for high-quality sustainability data.

The combined offering also includes over 500,000 datasets across various sectors. This wealth of data will facilitate faster, easier, and more robust compliance with regulatory frameworks such as the EU Construction Products Regulation, Energy Performance of Buildings Directive, and Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation.

Demand is increasing for high-quality sustainability data, with the ability to access and create product-specific LCA data becoming critical for industries.
