Car crash during police chase
In an unexpected turn of events, a high-speed pursuit involving a VW Golf driver ended in a collision in Gummersbach, Germany, on the night of August 21.
The incident began at approximately 22:37 on Dieringhauser Straße towards Vollmerhausen. According to initial reports transmitted by Circles Police Headquarters Oberbergischer Kreis, the police attempted to stop the driver, but he ignored the signals and continued his journey.
The driver sped through the construction zone of the L336 between Alperbrücke and the entrance to Eichhardtstraße, turning right onto Rospetalstraße and running a red light to turn left onto the Westtangente towards Wiehl. However, his reckless driving came to a halt when he collided with a traffic sign and a tree standing on a pedestrian crossing.
Despite the collision, the driver surrendered without resistance to the police. The news about the incident was subsequently confirmed by the press office for Circles Police Headquarters Oberbergischer Kreis, which can be contacted at [email protected] or by telephone at 02261/8199-1210.
Subsequent checks revealed that the 50-year-old Gummersbach resident did not have a driver's license, leading to the initiation of a criminal investigation. The driver's vehicle was seized by the police the following morning.
