Car collision on the A2 motorway near FW Hannover.
On Saturday evening at around 6:30 PM, a serious traffic accident occurred on the A2, heading towards Berlin. The incident took place at the Varrelheide rest area, between the Bothfeld and Lahe exits.
According to Timo Gerlich, the press spokesman for the Hannover Fire Department, the accident involved a vehicle driven by a 71-year-old individual who lost control, causing the vehicle to overturn. The 68-year-old passenger was trapped inside the car and had to be extricated by the fire department using specialized equipment.
The driver was able to exit the vehicle on his own, but both occupants sustained severe injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals. The fire department cannot provide information on the cause of the accident or the extent of the damage.
A total of 20 firefighters and emergency service personnel were on the scene of the accident until approximately 7:15 PM. The Varrelheide rest area was closed during the operation, but traffic flow on the A2 was not affected.
