Car collision leaves victims after disagreement results in vehicle ramming crowd outside a bar.
In the 50,000-strong city of Évreux, located in Normandy, France, a tragic incident unfolded early this morning. A nighttime altercation at a local wine bar resulted in one man's death and the injury of five others.
According to reports by Le Parisien, citing the Évreux prefecture, the suspects under investigation are the driver of the car, along with two other occupants and one additional person. They are being investigated for manslaughter and attempted manslaughter.
The incident occurred outside the wine bar around four in the morning. The bar, which was the site of the altercation, had not adhered to the closing time regulation. The bar's non-compliance with regulations was reportedly a recurring issue.
The owner of the bar reportedly cleared the establishment following the altercation. The approximately 100 people standing outside the bar were intoxicated. A person involved in the dispute retrieved a car and drove it backwards at high speed into the crowd.
The large crowd present at the time of the incident may have been a result of the bar's failure to close at the designated time of one in the morning as per regulations. The scene at the bar was one of great panic when emergency services arrived.
The mayor of Évreux made a statement to BFMTV channel, expressing condolences for the loss of life and wishing a speedy recovery to those injured. The investigation is ongoing, and more information is expected to be released in due course.
